Subject: Your Online Reputation

An online reputation is very important now days for multiple reasons. A future employer or a client of yours may see how you hold your self in a business setting, but your online profile may show how you are out side of a business setting. As we have been assigned to see what we can find out about your online profile here is what you allow the public eye to see.

I began my search first by logging onto Facebook, and going to our class page. I made sure to spell your name correctly as I started typing your name instantly a profile with a picture of you pulled up, so I knew I had found the right Gage Peterson.

As I continued my search on you through Facebook I found out that you grew up in Morgan Utah, and graduated from Morgan High School. You have studied at Weber state and are now currently studying at Utah State. Also you have been working at Medway Medical from 2013 to current in the intake/collections department. Just from looking at your photos it seems like you are a very out doors person who loves there truck and has a huge passion for snowmobiling. I think it is very smart of you to have pictures of your hobbies that is very important for employers to see what you are passionate about out side of work.

After learning lots about you through Facebook I decided to continue my search through Google. I started first by going to Google images and typing your name in to see what kind of pictures would pull up. Of course this was not a very specific search so I didn’t find you at first. But the pictures that I did see were ones that had been posted to your Facebook. After realizing that pictures might not be the best way to find out information on you. I typed in your name and your hometown of Morgan, Utah. Here I found your LinkedIn profile this is always a great find for a future employer as this shows them that you have a professional side to your online profile. Here I saw that you have multiple connects with some high up people which is truly great. I also really liked how you gave a description of the job that you are currently involved in. This gives me a really good idea of what you would bring to the table at your future job.

I continued my search by typing in your name and then adding Instagram at the end of it. I found your account quite quickly again I saw allot of the same pictures as your Facebook which is a great thing. I say this because it shows that you are the same through out your social media accounts, which is very comforting. Lastly I tried to see if you had a twitter account, unfortunately I was unsuccessful in finding a twitter account that was linked to you.

In conclusion I just want to say that I was very impressed with your online profile. If I were to give you a letter grade you would receive an A. I say this because you have a strong online presence that presents your self very well. The pictures that you have posted and the information provided are very intriguing. It truly shows what you are passionate about and that you have the potential to be a great employee. If I were to make a suggestion to you about your online profile it would be just a little bit more information on your linked in account. Maybe more information about your previous work experience out side of Midway Medical, other then that I was very impressed by your online profile, keep up the good work.

Letter to Cousin

Dear Cousin,

It has been brought to my attention that you are not familiar with the subject matter of technical and professional communications. I am here today to help clear up any misunderstandings that you may have. First by going through technical communications and then finishing up with professional communications. My hope with this letter is to give you a brief and better understanding of technical and professional communications.

To start off we will cover the basics of Technical communication. Technical communication “is a means to convey scientific, engineering, or other technical information.” Basically stating that people of the technical communications field communicate on a technology based level. Whether that be through computer based writings, texts, emails Etc.. This type of communication is used more in a business setting dealing with more specialized topics or instructions. An easy way to think of it is instructions, for example when you buy a desk from Ikea, the instructions given to you is a perfect example of technical communication. Where there is still communication but it is not given to you in face-to-face communication.

Second we will cover the topic of Professional communication. In simple terms professional communication is used in a work place setting, meaning that written oral and visual communication is all used. I like to think of this almost as open communications where all types are used to communicate. In my opinion this is one of the most important ways that we as humans interact with one another. We all interact with each other in different ways and professional communications seems to be the dominant way of communication. Professional communication is said to be one of the most important skills successful people bring to the table. I bring this up to you, because I know that you are on a righteous path of success and I want you to learn all that you can to better your self. Professional communications is a way where people with power are able to take action and guide you to think and believe the way they do. For example sales men are very good in face-to-face professional communications. They are able to make you believe and be interested in what they have to sell.

In closing I just want to say that Technical Communication and Professional communication are very closely related. Professional is based more around the idea of strategy and the theory of learning and persuading. Technological communication is more in the work field where we as humans are not communication as much in person and we rely on the work place technology to help us out. I hope this gave you a brief overview of the idea behind technical and professional communication.

Sincerely, Chandler
