Stand Alone Mobile Apps vs. Internet Browser Mobile Apps

When looking up information on this topic I found that before you ever make any conclusions on if an app is better then a website you need to first determine the key difference. One of the key characteristics in determining the difference between mobile and website is the size and layout design of the page. On a website things can be spread out and you are able to see almost all of the features in own view. Sometimes on apps as it is smaller and hand held there will be a difference of page view. Sometimes you have to look at other pages to see everything you want. Also there are hyperlinks that will take you different places, as you are not able to see it all at once. One thing that people have said they like more about mobile apps is the ability to sink all of your phone information to the app. For example there are many apps that use your contact information so you can have more friends or send friend request. For me personally I like the fact that you are usually able to access your photos straight from your camera roll and post that to the mobile app. Along with photos you can use your location as a reference to pictures or locations near by with your computer website you are not able to do that.

The article also gave advice for people who are trying to decide whether or not they should build a home website or a mobile app. The main idea behind doing this is determining your end goal and who you audience will be. For me I think that I would choose to do a mobile app as most people seem to be on there phones more then they are on a home website. Or even better you can be like multiple social media accounts and have both in my opinion that is the best of both worlds because you can tailor to your mobile audience as well as the website audience. When you are determining your idea of an app it is important to think of updates many times it is much easier and more flexible for a online website to constantly update without the use of the clicking update. Many times on mobile apps you will not know that there is an update until someone tells you and you have to go in and manually update the mobile app yourself. This can be very frustrating for some people especially the older generation. I know that I looked at my grandma’s Facebook on her phone the other day and it looked as if she had not updated it in years. I’m sure that is not the case but it seemed that way. One last thing to add is the use of mobile data in this day and age people are always on there phones which uses data when they are on a mobile app it can cost them more on there month bill. I have heard that some people try and stay away from mobile apps as they do have to pay more in month bills due to data usage. The point is there are many factors that you have to put in place when determining if a mobile app is better then an online website app.
